Intelligent Octopus Go is Octopus Energy’s smartest EV tariff. You’ll get cheap electricity between 11.30pm and 5.30am, as well as super cheap electricity for any Smart Charging when connected to your Ohme charger.

You can connect to the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff in a few different ways, such as your car or your charger but only with one device at a time.

If you have an Ohme charger, we would advise choosing ‘Chargers’. You connect your Ohme charger by logging into your Ohme account during the tariff setup.

If you want to connect your car instead, you’ll need to disconnect your Ohme account from the charger. This stops any mix-ups between Octopus Energy controlling your car’s charging and Ohme controlling the charger. You can do this by deleting your Ohme account.

Go to Ohme app

Once you’ve completed the integration, you’ll see a new tab appear in the Octopus Energy app called Devices. If you’ve integrated with your Ohme account, you’ll see this page has a button to open the Ohme app to control and schedule charging.

And that’s it! Now you’ve successfully integrated your Ohme account with the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, you can use the Ohme app to control and schedule your charging. Remember all Smart charging will be billed at the off-peak rate even if it is outside the usual 11:30pm – 5:30am off-peak times.

Once you have completed the setup the next time you open the Ohme app, you’ll notice the tariff has been updated to Intelligent Octopus Go automatically. You’ll then get off-peak rates for any dynamic charging, even if this occurs outside of the 23:30-05:30 window. With dynamic charging automatically switched on, and price cap automatically switched off, it’s simpler to make the most of your off-peak rates.

Charging with the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff

To get the most out of the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff,  ‘Dynamic Charging’ will be automatically enabled. You will then just need to set the amount of charge you wish to add or the target you want to reach and a ‘Ready by’ time for the next morning.

Please note: Octopus Energy recommend plugging in after 5pm and setting your departure time to any time between 4am and 11am.

To maximise the benefits of additional half-hour off-peak slots the price cap setting will be turned off.

To ensure every session is a smart charge and recorded correctly, check your charger is online before plugin via the charger icon in the top right corner of the Charging screen. This makes sure Ohme can record your charging sessions and send the charging data to Octopus for billing purposes. If you notice your charger is offline, follow this help centre article to restore connectivity: My charger is offline

charging schedule with Ohme upon plugin

Upon plugin, you’ll be able to see the charging slots Ohme plans to deliver your charge in. Depending on what time Ohme is scheduled to charge you may either see ‘Scheduled’ or ‘Smart charging’ in the status banner.

Please note: Ohme may schedule charging outside of the 11:30pm-05:30am window with the Price Cap disabled. Provided the charger is online and smart charging, all slots will be billed at the off-peak rate with Octopus.

For more information, refer to the Octopus Energy Intelligent Octopus Go FAQs.

A pink status banner with ‘Max Charging’ means a boost charge is happening, which is billed at the peak rate unless it’s between 11:30pm and 5:30am. Tap the ‘Smart Charge’ button to end the Max charge.

How to charge with Intelligent Octopus Go and Solar Batteries

At this time, Ohme cannot distinguish between power from solar power and power from your home battery. Therefore, if your battery is set to release energy when you plug in your car, the charger might use that instead of solar energy.
To keep your battery full for when you need it, here’s what you can do:

  • Change the battery settings so it isn’t set to discharge while you’re charging your car.
  • Schedule the battery (if it has this feature) to hold onto its charge during your usual car charging times.
  • Switch off the battery manually when you plug in your car, and turn it back on after you unplug.

This way, you can save the stored energy for later and keep dynamically charging your car with the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff.

Disconnect and change tariff

Once you are integrated with the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff you cannot change your tariff in the Ohme app.

If you’ve left the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff and wish to change or update your tariff, you’ll first need to disconnect the Ohme integration. To do this:

  1. Open the Octopus Energy app and tap “Account & settings” > “Devices”
  2. Tap “Intelligent Octopus Go” > “Disconnect Device”.

You will now be able to change the tariff in the Ohme app.

How to update your tariff

While your Ohme account is integrated with the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, if you try to change your tariff you will see the following message.

If you wish to disconnect, follow the steps above and you will be able to change your tariff.

The Intelligent Octopus Go tariff is a smart tariff, that can be integrated with either an electric vehicle or a home charger, like your Ohme. This guide will help cover some common questions and queries related to this tariff.

Getting set up

To set up this tariff and integrate this with your Ohme account, you will need to do this in the Octopus app. You can find a helpful guide on how to set this tariff up with your Ohme account here: How do I set up Intelligent Octopus Go?

During this set up process, you’ll be offered some different options for which device you would like to integrate the tariff with.

This device will then control when your charging occurs, so we recommend tapping on ‘EV chargers’ to allow Ohme to control your charging.

Once you have filled in some information about your charger and your vehicle, you’ll be prompted to connect to your Ohme account.

At this stage, you will need to sign in with the same login method that was used to create the account your Ohme charger is currently linked to.

You can check this on the ‘Settings’ page in the Ohme app, or signing out and back into the Ohme app can help confirm the sign in method used to set up the account

Once the tariff is connected to your Ohme account, your tariff details will automatically update in the Ohme app to confirm the integration is set up correctly.

If you’ve already integrated with the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, but your Ohme app tariff hasn’t updated automatically, or you’re experiencing unexpected charging issues since joining the tariff, it’s worth checking how you originally integrated.

Problems often occur when the tariff has been integrated with the EV rather than the Ohme charger. This results in two sets of instructions, one from Octopus Energy telling the car when to charge and another from Ohme telling the charger when to charge. The clash between the two different systems may result in a failed or unexpected charge, so it’s worth checking which you’ve paired with if you’re experiencing problems charging after integrating to this tariff.

How to check which device you’re integrated with

Once you’ve finished the Intelligent Octopus Go integration, a new ‘Devices’ tab will appear at the bottom of the Octopus Energy app. The information displayed on this tab will indicate the device with which you’ve chosen to integrate.

Upon completing the integration with your EV, you’ll see the following information on the devices tab.

Should you wish to switch and integrate with the Ohme charger instead, follow the disconnection steps here. When re-starting the integration process, ensure to select ‘chargers’.

If you prefer to maintain the integration with your EV, it’s recommended to delete your Ohme account. This will prevent any schedule conflicts between Ohme and Octopus. To find out how to delete your Ohme account visit the following article: How to delete my Ohme app account
