OZEV Grant for renters and flat owners: What’s changed and how to apply
Jump to:
The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) currently offers grants to help with the cost of buying and installing EV charge points. These grants have been extended for a year until 31st March 2027. From April 1st 2026, OZEV have made changes to the grant rates and application process with two key impacts to customers:
- The grant amount is increasing to a maximum of £500
- Customers must apply for the grant directly to OZEV once they have purchased their EV charger from a supplier
We are aware the form asks for some information you may not be able to provide. We are currently working with OZEV to confirm how our customers can best navigate this part of the application and will update this article and affected customers as soon as we know more.
OZEV grant for renters and flat owners
Currently Ohme supports the OZEV grant for renters and flat owners. From 1st April 2026, this grant provides up to £500 towards the cost of installing an EV charge point at your property. To apply, you must:
- Live in a flat you own or live in a rented property (house or flat). Homeowners of detached/semi-detached houses are generally not eligible.
- Have private off-street parking
- Own, lease, or have ordered an eligible electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid.
Information on other OZEV EV grants is available on the UK Government website.
Additional eligibility criteria
In addition to the above, you must:
- Not have previously claimed this grant or a previous grant for an EV charger
- Use an approved Ozev installer
To see the full list of car models which are covered by the grant, please visit the government website.
How do I apply to OZEV?
To progress your claim, you must now submit your grant application via the UK Government’s new Find a Grant platform:
- You are responsible for submitting the application directly to OZEV
- Ohme can no longer apply on your behalf
- You’ll need to create a Find a Grant account and complete the application accurately, providing all eligibility information requested by OZEV.
What documents will I need to provide?
During your application, you will need to upload all required eligibility evidence directly to OZEV. The new process currently asks for some details that we know you may not be able to provide, we are working with OZEV to understand the best way for our customers to navigate this section of the application. In the meantime, here are some documents & details you should be prepared to provide (where applicable):
- Written permission from your landlord, freeholder or property manager to install the charge point
- A copy of your tenancy agreement (if renting)
- Proof of dedicated off-street parking
- A utility bill with your full name and the address where the charge point will be installed
Once you’ve received approval for your grant, Ohme will also be notified. OZEV estimates up to 10 working days to assess applications and claims, provided no additional evidence is required. However, we encourage you to apply as soon as you have started your installation process with us.
Installation rules
- Charge points will not be installed until OZEV confirms you are eligible for the grant
- Ohme will receive the eligibility notification at the same time as the customer
- Once approved, your assigned installer will contact you to arrange a suitable date for installation
We’re here to help every step of the way, so if you have any questions about the installation application (or if you’re not quite sure where to start), do just ask.
Thanks for your feedback!
