On-street parking eligibility

In line with the recent changes in domestic EV charger installation regulations, customers with on-street parking can proceed through the eligibility survey only if specific criteria are met. Because the installation involves running a cable across public land, additional permissions are required.

  • Postcode Check: Customers must provide their postcode. Ohme must confirm that the customer lives in a borough or council that allows the use of cable protection (e.g. cable mats) across pavements. If the area is not approved, the installation cannot proceed.
  • Permission: Customers must provide written approval from their local authority or landowner confirming they are allowed to run a charging cable across the pavement using an authorised cable protection mat.
  • Planning Permission: Customers must also provide planning permission or written confirmation that they are allowed to install a dedicated EV charger on their property, even if it is to be used for on-street charging.
  • Costs: The cost of the cable mat will be covered by the customer.
  • Accessibility: Most setups require bending down to manage the charging cable or adjusting a cable mat each time you charge.
  • Evidence and Declaration: Customers must upload both council approval and planning permission during or after the survey. They must also sign a declaration which confirms that:

– They are responsible for the safe use and storage of the cable mat.

– Public liability for the cable remains their responsibility.

If the customer cannot provide these permissions, they will not be eligible for an on-street installation and should either contact their local authority or alternative charging options.

On-street parking eligibility will be approved case-by-case
