Permission 101

If you live in a rented property and want to install an Ohme charger, you’ll need permission from your landlord, housing association or council.

Why do we need permission?

Installing a home charger involves changes to the property, like adding electrical cabling and mounting the charger on an external wall or post.

These changes could affect some structural parts of your home or even the ground outside in case we need to bury the cable to supply power to your Ohme charger.

Also, if your parking space is in a shared area communal area or if the cable needs to cross communal areas or land that you don’t own, it’s important that we receive written approval from the owners.

What if your landlord, housing association, or council asks for more information?

Don’t worry, we can provide the information they need. We can help you with supporting documents like charger specifications and our install partner information such as their qualifications and insurance details. We also have specification sheets for both the Ohme Home Pro and ePod models. If they need an installation plan, please do get in touch with us so we can request this from your assigned installer.

How do we ask for permission?

Most of the time confirming that you have permission via your online home survey is sufficient. This is a quick check to see if you have basic approval. It can be a verbal or informal agreement.

Sometimes, we need formal, written approval. This is necessary for significant work that may need to be done to the property to complete your installation. This ensures that we have advance approval from the landlord or owner of any part of the property that may be affected by this. If this is the case, we’ll be in touch to let you know.
