What is changing with the partnership between Ohme and OVO?

From 15 July 2025, OVO will be changing the way they offer the Charge Anytime bolt-on tariff to Ohme customers.

Ohme chargers will no longer integrate directly with OVO’s Charge Anytime tariff. However, many customers, if eligible, will be able to access OVO Charge Anytime directly from their EVs.

In this article we will go into how these changes will affect you and your charging costs going forward and how you can continue to get cheap home EV charging with Ohme.

We apologise for the inconvenience, and want to support customers through the options available.

If you are currently integrated with your Ohme account you can still use your Ohme charger as normal, but smart charging at the Charge Anytime rate will end on 15 July.

After this date if your EV is supported, you can use OVO Energy’s Charge Anytime app to continue charging on the Charge Anytime tariff. Or, you will need to add a new tariff to your Ohme account.

Why is this happening?

OVO has chosen to withdraw its existing direct integration with Ohme.

Ohme customers will still be able to choose OVO’s standard tariffs on the Ohme app, but the bolt on tariffs such as Charge Anytime will no longer be available directly via Ohme, but you may be able to access them directly from your car.

How will it affect me?

Until now, OVO’s Charge Anytime tariff has offered EV drivers unlimited hours of reduced rate home charging at 7p/kWh each day while Smart charging compared to the UK’s Standard Variable Tariff of 27p/kWh.

This has meant that charging your EV for six hours, providing 44kW of energy, has previously cost you £3.08. By comparison, on the Standard Variable Tariff of 27p/kWh that same 44kWh would cost £11.88. The SVT changes after 1 July to 25.7p.

This change means that if you continue with OVO as your energy supplier on a standard or fixed rate tariff, you will be spending more to charge your car than you have done before.

What are my options going forward?

If you have a compatible EV:

  • You may be able to stay on the Charge Anytime tariff by linking your EV directly to the OVO’s app. The list of supported EVs is available here.

If your EV isn’t compatible with OVO Charge Anytime you can:

  • Stay with OVO Energy and charge on your standard tariff rates, however, you will be paying more for your home charging.
  • Switch to another super cheap EV tariff provider such as Octopus Energy or E.ON Next.

Octopus Energy
Intelligent Octopus Go customers receive a smart charging rate of 7p/kWh for their entire household consumption between 23:30 and 5:30am. For more details about this tariff visit the Octopus Energy website here. If you wish to switch to Intelligent Octopus Go, we have a helpful guide to tell you how to set up: How do I set up Intelligent Octopus Go?.

E.ON Next
Limited time offer for Ohme customers.
With E.ON Next Drive, you’ll receive lower priced electricity at 6.7p/kWh between midnight and 7am for your entire household energy consumption.

In addition, Ohme customers switching to E.ON Next Drive before 31 July 2025 will receive £75 of credit on their bill. Find out more on the E.ON website here.

Available for new and existing E.ON Next customers. Terms and Conditions apply.

Specific advice to Volvo customers

You may have a specific Volvo model that doesn’t yet integrate directly with the Charge Anytime tariff through the OVO Charge Anytime app. This includes EX30, EX90, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. The list of supported EVs is available here.

Volvo and OVO are working together to make more Volvo vehicles compatible with direct connection to the OVO app, with this feature expected to be available later this year.

In the meantime, you can continue with your current OVO setup, but you will experience an increase in charging costs. For advice or to discuss your options, please contact OVO directly.

If you have an EV supported by the Charge Anytime app you can link your vehicle directly to the Charge Anytime tariff. For more information and how to set up visit OVO Energy’s website here.

If you decide to access Charge Anytime directly via the vehicle you will need to delete your account from the Ohme app or request for the account to be unlinked. Refer to our help centre article for steps to delete your Ohme account: How to disconnect my account from my Ohme charger

Please be aware, switching to controlling charging via the Charge Anytime app will mean access to the following functionality included in the Ohme App will be lost:

  • Managing multiple EVs*
  • Approving each plug-in or locking the charger buttons
  • Manage pre-conditioning, Solar and charging history from the Ohme app

Load Balancing:

Ohme will continue to protect your home’s electricity supply, even if your Ohme account is deleted and whether your charger is online or offline. However, OVO will not be able to detect if your charging rate is reduced due to load balancing. This means the Charge Anytime app may create a schedule based on a higher charging rate than your charger is able to deliver, which could result in your vehicle not reaching its set target in time.

*You can only use the Charge Anytime app to charge more than one EV if all your vehicles are supported. If any of your EVs are not supported, you will be charged your standard tariff rates when charging that vehicle.

The Charge Anytime tariff won’t be available from 15 July, but it will still be visible in the Ohme app and you will be able to access the data if you need to query any bill credits with OVO until 31 August

Do I need to make any changes in the Ohme app?

If you use the OVO Charge Anytime tariff, then from 15 July then this will no longer be integrated with your Ohme charger. From then, you will need to ensure your tariff information in the Ohme app is up to date.

If you revert to the Standard Variable Tariff then you will be paying peak rates to charge your EV as outlined above. It may therefore be beneficial to explore alternative  tariffs so you can continue to receive affordable rates for your charging.
