Ohme is new smart EV charging choice for Volkswagen Group Ireland
March 2023
Leading smart charging company Ohme is the new official charging partner for Volkswagen Group Ireland.
The agreement will see all six Volkswagen Group Ireland brands, Volkswagen, Audi, ŠKODA, CUPRA, SEAT and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, recommend Ohme chargers for all of their electrified vehicle sales with an Ohme Home Pro charger in showrooms for customers to view.
“Our partnership with the Volkswagen Group Ireland underlines Ohme’s position as one of Ireland’s fastest growing smart charging companies,” said David Watson, CEO at Ohme. “Volkswagen Group Ireland has one of the most comprehensive electrified vehicle portfolios available to Irish car buyers. We are looking forward to introducing those drivers to the benefits of off-peak charging with reduced running costs and working with retailers to help their customers through the entire process.”
Volkswagen Group Ireland is Ireland leader in battery electric vehicles (BEV). In 2022, its retail brands led the way with a combined EV market share of 34%. The Volkswagen ID.4 has been Ireland’s best-selling vehicle for the last two years running. The ID. Buzz created history by becoming the first vehicle to win Irish Car of the Year and Irish Van of the Year in the same year, while the multi-award winning Audi Q4 e-tron, ŠKODA Enyaq and CUPRA Born have become firm favourites with Irish EV drivers.
“We are delighted to announce that we will be partnering with Ohme as our preferred home charger supplier,” says Carla Wentzel, Managing Director for Volkswagen Group Ireland. “Ohme’s award-winning Home Pro charger and reputation for excellent customer service represents a clear differentiator in the market and a perfect match to the extensive range of electrified models across the Volkswagen Group umbrella.”
Ohme’s range of smart chargers can connect seamlessly with all of Ireland’s electricity suppliers and automatically adjust an EV’s charging for drivers to take advantage of off-peak tariffs.
For instance, charging a 77kWh Volkswagen ID.3 from zero to 100 per cent with an Ohme Home Pro on an off-peak tariff, such as SSE Airtricity’s Night Boost*, could cost just €8.12 for an electric range of more than 420kms (WLTP). Over the course of a year and 10,000kms of driving that would equate to a saving of almost €700 compared to charging on the standard tariff.
Ohme also offers drivers the option to charge their car when renewable energy generation is at its highest, further lowering their CO2 impact. Ohme already works with a number of other partners across Ireland including the AA, Donegal County Council and Iarnród Éireann.
* SSE Airtricity Night Boost tariff– 10.55c/kWh
