You're never too old to start driving an EV

You’re never too old to pass your driving test and you’re never too old to drive an EV. That’s certainly the case for Linda Ning from York, who has just passed her driving test – at 74 years old!

Having previously lived in London, Linda didn’t feel the need for a car due to the convenience of public transport, but having moved to York in 2020 she was keen to get back behind the wheel.

“Whilst living in London there wasn’t the need for either myself or my husband to drive as public transport was readily available. Once we moved bac to Yorkshire, it became clear that we needed a car to get around,” said Linda. “I was terrified when I first got behind the wheel with [my driving instructor] Nuray, but her calmness and patience put me at ease and now I can’t wait for my new car to arrive and to start driving myself and my husband to places.”

Linda has just bought an all-electric Peugeot 208 and is gearing up to embrace the EV lifestyle. It’s quite a change from when she failed her first driving test in the 1970s – in a Ford Anglia.

“When I first met Linda, she told me that it was her dream to learn how to drive,” said Nuray Inal. “Having given up learning in the 1970s, Linda is a god example of people returning to learning years later.”

Linda isn’t alone either, in 2024, more than 6000 people over the age of 60 sat their driving test with more than a third of them passing.
