What is CrowdFlex?
CrowdFlex is the UK’s largest home energy flexibility study. We’re proud to be working alongside industry leaders to learn more about EV charging behaviour. Together, we can find out how homeowners can help make the grid greener and cut home charging costs by plugging in more.
What’s my mission?
Just plug in your car a bit more often than usual – ideally every day if it works for you. The best part? You’ll get paid for it. That’s right – rewards for simply plugging in!
Quick tip: Start thinking ‘Park and Plug’ whenever you arrive home. Don’t worry if you miss a few days or even weeks – simply jump back in and continue plugging in for the rest of the trial. Before you know it, it will become a routine, and you’ll be playing your part in making the grid greener.
How can I sign up?
Head back to your inbox and click your unique invite link in the email we sent you. Accept the T&Cs, and you’re all set! We’ll confirm your spot in the trial right away and send you more details via email before 16th September.
Who can take part?
The trial is invite-only. It’s limited to you and a small number of Ohme drivers who meet specific eligibility criteria based on location.
What if my car is plugged in but not charging?
This still counts! We reward our customers for plugging in more frequently, not charging more. Why? The more you’re plugged in, the more flexibility the grid has to operate efficiently. Learn more here.
How do I claim my reward?
Every week you plug in, we’ll track your charging sessions and add a reward to your account. At the end of each month, we’ll send you a reward update so you can grab your gift card and start shopping across a wide range of retailers.
What if I want to opt out?
Plans change, we get it! If you want to stop taking part in the trial, simply click on the opt-out link in any emails we send about the trial.
Can Ohme remove me from the trial?
You might be removed if you move house, withdraw consent, or switch to a new energy tariff. More info on changing tariff is available here.

Why is plugging in more helping the grid?
When you plug in, our chargers connect to the grid and your car to automatically provide you with the greenest cheapest energy. This helps make the UK grid more sustainable and could also lower your charging costs.
The more you stay pluged in, the smarter your Ohme charger gets. Simply put, kepping your car plugged in at home is a win for both the grid and your wallet!
Will I end up paying more money?
Not at all! You’ll still be charging for the same amount of time, just spread out across more plugged in periods. And the best part? During the trial, you’ll actually earn rewards just for plugging in a little more often. It’s a win-win!
Will I risk having too little or too much charge?
We’ll make sure your charging schedule is followed at all times so you always have the perfect amount of charge right when you need it.
But won’t that be bad for my battery?
Rest assured, your battery health is our top priority. We’ll stick to the charge levels you’ve set to keep your battery in the optimal range. Plus, charging a little more frequently, known as graze charging, is actually better for your battery than one big charge.
How can I be set up for success?
We’re here to make sure you’re top of the class when it comes to earning rewards! Here’s the secret: it’s all about letting Ohme know how much charge you need and by when. You can easily do this in the Ohme app:
Plan routines: set up regular charging routines based on your daily activities, like your commute or the school run.
Set up on-off sessions: use the ‘charging screen’ to schedule a one-time charge with the battery level you need by a specific time.

What happens if I switch tariffs?
We want to make sure you’re getting the best charge rate for your home charging. If you switch to an energy tariff that could affect your costs, such as Intelligent Octopus Go, we will remove you from the trial to prevent this. Other tariff changes are unlikely to impact your participation, but we’ll keep you informed via email if anything affects your trial status.
