How do I choose the right target for my car?

To ensure you get the most out of Ohme, it’s important to choose the correct amount of charge. When setting up a session, there are two different ways to set the amount of charge you’d like to deliver to your car.

Setting an amount of charge to ‘add’ to your car.

Charge to add

If you have a car brand that we’re not yet integrated with (or you haven’t paired your car’s app account with Ohme), you’ll need to set a charge target that specifies the percentage of charge you would like to add to the current amount of charge displayed in your car.

For example, if you normally return home with 30% charge left in your EV and you want to have 80% ready for the next morning, you’ll need to set a charge target to add 50% more charge (30% + 50% = 80%). You can do this by tapping the “Charge to add” button, and using either the +/- buttons, or tapping the percentage to manually type in the amount to add.

If you set a charge target asking Ohme to add charge that would total over 100% battery (for example, you ask Ohme to add 50% but you’re already on 80%), once your car is full you might receive an alert to tell you that your car isn’t charging as expected. This isn’t anything to worry about, but it’s our way of letting you know that we were expecting to deliver more charge.

Routine

Alternatively, you can set up Routines to request for Ohme to add a specified amount of charge to the vehicle on certain days of the week by a departure time.

For example, you could set one weekday routine for Ohme to add 30% charge to the vehicle on Monday – Friday by 8am for a small top-up throughout the week. You could then set another Routine for Ohme to add 80% charge on Saturday and Sunday by 9am to allow for a larger weekend charge.

Upon plugin, the Charging page will show how much energy has been added to the vehicle so far, as well as the name and details of the Routine being followed if currently enabled.

The charging schedule can be adjusted for the individual charging session by tapping the “Charge to add” or “Ready by” areas of the Charging screen.

For more information on how to update your charging plan, please see this guide: How do I update my charging target?

Setting a ‘target’ for Ohme to reach

To set a ‘target’, you must first check that you’ve downloaded your car brand’s dedicated app and created an account, then log into your car app account when you choose your car in the Ohme app. Logging into your car app account will allow Ohme to retrieve the battery state of charge which allows for more precise charging. Ohme will check in with your car at regular intervals during the session to achieve the target.

This is an Ohme Labs feature and it may not always work as intended. We’re continuously improving this feature and it is currently available for the car brands below:

  • Audi
  • BMW
  • Cupra
  • Hyundai
  • Land Rover
  • Kia
  • Mini
  • Nissan
  • Renault
  • Skoda
  • Tesla
  • Volkswagen
  • Volvo

Step 1

When you choose your car in the Ohme app, there will be an option to “Pair your EV” for every brand supported.

When prompted to, log into your car app account.

In this example we’re connecting to the Ohme demo brand, however you will see your own car’s brand for your setup.

Once you have logged in, you’ll be able to see the battery status of your car on the My EV page above the “Switch EV” button.

Charge to

Once you’re logged into your car app account, you’ll be able to set a “Charge to” target on the Charging page, and as part of your Routines.

Ohme will check in at regular intervals throughout the session to update the battery status and see whether the target has been reached.

Upon plugin, the Charging page will display the current battery status along with the charging plan Ohme is currently following.

The charging schedule can be adjusted for the individual charging session by tapping the “Charge to” or “Ready by” areas of the Charging screen.
