New Smart EV Charger regulations \u2013 everything you need to know<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The end of next month will see the introduction of new Government regulations meaning that all home and workplace electric car chargers need to have smart charging capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulations which come into effect on 1st<\/sup> July 2022 are intended to help the National Grid adapt to the new demands of EVs and encourage drivers towards using smarter tariffs to avoid charging during peak hours. The new regulations also mean that all smart chargers need to have a data connection that has the ability to measure and transmit records so that drivers can view their charging history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Ohme, EV drivers are already ahead of the crowd with its Home Pro charger fully compliant well ahead of the regulations effective from 30 June 2022. The new smart chargers will also randomly delay charging by up to ten minutes to reduce any spikes in demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOhme is delighted to announce that it has already completed the changes needed to make the Home Pro compliant with the new smart charger regulations arriving in July 2022,\u201d explained David Watson, CEO at Ohme. \u201cAny EV drivers choosing an Ohme charger don\u2019t need to be concerned about the new regulations as it is already compliant. Existing Home Pro owners won\u2019t have to worry either as Ohme\u2019s class-leading app will update adding these new functions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ohme\u2019s Home Pro can connect with the grid in real time automatically adjusting the charging for drivers to take advantage of all<\/em> the times of low price charging, not just particular set hours. Using the Ohme app, drivers can set the Home Pro to charge their EV when prices drop below a certain point. The result is that EV drivers can typically save up to \u00a31000 by smart charging their EV with an Ohme Home Pro charger compared to charging on standard electricity rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Ohme is alone in offering drivers the option to charge their car when renewable energy generation on the National Grid is at its highest, further lowering their CO2 impact. This is crucial in helping fleets and businesses to meet corporate sustainability targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ohme is the official charger provider for customers on the Motability<\/a> scheme, the largest UK fleet operator in the UK, and has been named as the Best Electric Charging Point Provider by Business Motoring<\/a> and voted number one for customer service in Auto Express magazine\u2019s 2022 Driver Power survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
